Baptism

Baptism is the first Sacrament of Initiation that a Catholic receives. Because of original sin, we are born without grace in our soul, and we are not in union with God. Jesus became man to bring us back into union with His Father. He said no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is first born of "water and the Spirit." This refers to baptism.

Through baptism, we are born again, but this time in the spiritual realm instead of the physical. We are cleansed in the bath of rebirth. We are baptized into Christ's Death and therefore share in his Resurrection. Baptism cleanses us of sins and brings the Holy Spirit and his grace into our souls. Baptism is the gateway into the Church, welcoming members into the Christian community.

Baptisms are celebrated every Sunday at 1:00pm. Parents must be active, registered members of St. Mary's Parish. Parents are also required to attend a Parent Preparation session at the Parish Center.

To register for baptism, please contact the Parish Center at (847) 234-0205.

Adults seeking baptism and entrance into the Catholic Church are invited to contact the Parish Center. To find out more about Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), click here.
